WHY DID IT HAPPEN TO ME?
Part 3

 

We saw in our last lesson how sin came into the world. You may be asking, “What does that  have to do with my hurts?”

The Bible tells us because of one man (Adam) sin entered the world, and death through sin.  Death spread to all men because of sin.

Because of sin, there is none righteous, no, not one. There is none who understands, there is none who seek after God. We have all turned aside. There is none of us who does good, no not one. Our mouth is full of cursing, and bitterness. We are all brought forth in iniquity.  In sin our mothers conceived us.  We are all born sinners.

Sin affects our whole being. Our minds have been blinded. Our feelings are darkened.  Because we have not retained God in our knowledge, He gives us over to uncleanness through the lust of our own hearts.

There were three avenues of temptation that the serpent used on Eve. She saw it was good, it was pleasing to her eyes, and she thought it would make her wise.

The Bible tells us not to love the world, for all that is in the world is three avenues:  the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life.

What is the result of all this sin in the world and in people?  Total depravity, which means every part of a person is tainted by sin.

We are not only all born sinners but we continue to pass sin on from one generation to another.  Because of sin, people hurt each other - even those they say they love. Because of sin, you were sinned against.

But thanks be to God, there is Hope. We will look at that in the next lesson.

Father, I confess to you that I am a sinner, born in sin. I want to be set free from all the pain and hurt.  Help me to break the bondage of my past. Teach me how to do this.  In Jesus’ name.
